New York Fashion Week - Spring 2009: Day 1 Recap

The New York Spring 2009 Fashion Week kicked off last Friday. It's time to pick up the fall trends and embrace the spring fashion. Chill out with a loose and beachy as collections for spring 2009 unfolds until September 12. I'm sure, tropical prints combined with an easy slouch will evoke less stressful times. There will be more than 100 shows over the coming eight days, so stay tuned for runway reviews...

    Yigal Azrouël

Yigal creations were mostly composed pf washed and weathered dresses. He also designed swimwears in the form of bandeau-top swimsuits and jewelry. One of the strongest pieces of his collection was a crepe cascade dress that showed off Azrouël's effortless aesthetic.

    BCBG Max Azria

Easy, sexy silk and jersey dresses graced the runway for BCBG Spring 2009 collection. Dresses and jumpsuits were paired with high leather platform sandals that looked like exotic skins. The color palette was muted with whites, greys, and light pastels dominating. Accessories were simple, like a dove grey patent leather clutch.

    Erin Fetherston

Erin Fetherston started her collection with a series of pieces that reflects 1970s country club life: bathing suits, trench coats, and lots of sequins. As the show continues, her designs showed cloud pattern dresses and rainbow ombré patterns. Her finale was a series of ruched asymmetrical gowns.

    Nicole Miller

When Nicole Miller was asked about the theme of her Spring 2009 collection, she exclaimed: "Voodoo!" at the backstage before the show. Among her designs were a lace dress, beaded with a print of voodoo dolls and printed, striped, or embellished dresses. Her most successful looks were the solid, drapey jersey dresses with layered necklines, in basic black or bright magenta.

    Rag & Bone

Marcus Wainwright and David Neville particularly focused on creating a collection for people who were trying to break away from the class system and be like no one else before them. A sheath dress that mixes black leather and an English teahouse floral print for women, and a man's silk scooter jacket worn with a slim tie. There also were harder-edged styles with super skinny-leg pants — those were for women and men — covered in exposed zippers and worn with studded belts.

    Jason Wu

Jason Wu Spring 2009 collection was composed with dresses that ranges from floaty to fitted and with embroidered details. The collection included blazer and a wide array of shorts. The colour palette was heavily weighted with pink, as well as white, black and grey.

    Julie Haus

Everybody loves the heart shaped print with zebra stripes, paint strokes and retro dots that dominated the runway as Julie Haus presented her collection this season. High waisted skirts and shorts made separates chic and wearable, bright colored frocks in yellow, orange, pink and blue were garden party wear at their finest, while punky jackets mixed practicality and edge. The colors are so girly and pretty, and you can wear them day or night without a thought.
